FAQs

What materials are used in your products?

Our products are made out of a variety of materials, including genuine leathers, real gemstones, shells, wax cords, stainless steel, copper, and zinc alloy.

What metals are used in your jewelry?

Our necklaces are all made out of gold-plated stainless steel—from the pendants, to the chain, to the clasps.

Depending on the product, our bracelets use stainless steel, copper, and/or alloy. To know what is being used, you can look through each product listing, and our materials are found in each product description.

Do any of the metals cause skin reactions?

Our jewelry line was designed to be as skin-friendly as possible. Any of the metals that will be in constant physical contact with skin are made out of stainless steel, which was purposefully chosen due to its hypoallergenic nature. The term hypoallergenic means “below the normal level” of allergenic. So while most people will not have an adverse reaction to it, a small number will.

The charms in our wrap bracelets are made out of copper. As with stainless steel, allergic reactions to copper are rare. However, it is more common to hear reports of copper jewelry turning the wearer’s skin green. This occurs due to a chemical reaction between the skin and the copper, or product on the skin (i.e. lotion) and the copper, or a combination of both. For this reason, only the charms are made out of this metal because the charms are typically not in constant contact with the skin. And depending on how you wear the bracelets, the charms may only touch the skin for a minimal amount of time.

Copper is also found in our crystal beaded bracelets.

Zinc alloy is the metal used in our jewelry line that is known to cause reactions in more people than stainless steel and copper. In our jewelry designs, it is typically found in the clasp of our wrap bracelets, which makes minimal contact with the skin.

Are your metals nickel-free and hypoallergenic?

We will be completely honest with you. The label nickel-free does not necessarily mean it is completely free of nickel, and hypoallergenic does not mean that it will never cause an allergic reaction.

The sad fact is that nickel is one of the most common allergens to people, typically causing dermatitis reactions, such as rashes, itchiness, dry patches of skin, skin discoloration, and blisters. Even if a piece of jewelry is labeled as nickel-free, it legally can still contain small amounts of nickel. Thankfully, the amount is so small, that allergic reactions are not common, even to those who have a nickel sensitivity.

The labels, nickel-free and hypoallergenic, are not interchangeable terms. According to Oxford Languages Dictionary, hypoallergenic is defined as “relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction” (Hypoallergenic, 2021). While nickel is the most common allergen found in jewelry, a person could have a reaction to other components of the product.

Of the three main metals that are used in our jewelry, here is a list of them in order of least likely to cause an allergic reaction to most likely.

  1. Stainless Steel
  2. Copper
  3. Zinc alloy

Will the metal charms and bangles get scratched easily?

Yes and no—depending on the product and how rough you are with them.

Our bracelet charms are made out of copper, which is a common metal used in engraved jewelry due to its pliability. This allows for deeper engravings. However, due to the softer nature of copper, it can be easily scratched.

So why did we choose this metal for our charms? The first round of our test products contained stainless steel charms. However, the engravings weren’t as distinguishable and scratches were extremely noticeable. So we tested out copper charms. The engravings popped out more, and although copper is a softer metal, the gloss of the charm seemed to hide any scratches pretty well.

Our bracelet bangles are made out of stainless steel and coated with PVD plating for extra protection and durability.

Will the metal tarnish?

Your stainless steel jewelry will not tarnish, even if worn daily

Over time, copper can lose its luster and tarnish, but this is after much use.

Zinc alloy is very susceptible to tarnishing as it reacts to oxygen, water, and other elements.

Can my jewelry get wet?

We want you to be able to enjoy your jewelry for many years to come. So while they can endure getting wet, to maximize the lifespan of your jewelry, we recommend taking them off before getting wet or getting into the water.
